Construction workers injured in Milford in scaffolding accident

Aug 08, 2023

MILFORD Four men were injured, three seriously, on Friday afternoon after they fell 22 feet from scaffolding while working on a house, authorities said.

Three men were taken to UMass-Memorial Medical Center in Worcester with serious injuries, while the fourth was taken to Milford Regional Medical Center with less serious injuries, Deputy Police Chief Robert Tusino said.

The four men were part of a construction crew building a new house at 371 Main St. At about 2:30 p.m., they were on a scaffolding in the rear of the house when the incident occurred, the deputy chief said.

"It collapsed in the middle, broke in half," Tusino said. "It failed and they all went crashing to the ground."

Tusino said one man was knocked unconscious but woke up as he was being loaded into the ambulance. He said two of the men were more seriously injured than the other two. He did not identify the men but said they are all in their 20s or 30s.

The cause of the incident is not known and is being investigated by the police and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
